South Asian Marrow Initiative

Saving lives, one swab at a time

Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukemia.

South Asian Marrow Initiative (SAMI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides cures for patients suffering from blood cancer and other blood diseases. By hosting drives and events around the country, SAMI recruits donors to join the National Bone Marrow Registry so that donors can give patients the life-saving marrow transplant they need.

Our Partners

SAMI has partnered with organizations like BeTheMatch® and DKMS to match patients directly to a donor. At our drives, we sign donors into either the BeTheMatch® registry or the DKMS registry, depending on the donor's age. Ultimately, both organizations are combined to form a single registry called the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP)

Our Donors

Sometimes it is easier to understand the reality of a situation when you hear the story from the real life perspective. It is easier to see the heart of a person when they share their thoughts and take you on a journey through their experience.

These stories bring to life some of the human realities of dealing with a life-threatening illness or donating to help a stranger.
