At 15 years old, Soren created SAMI when he learned about how underrepresented South Asians were in the bone marrow registry. Soren started by hosting small events around his school to raise awareness about the issue. He then transitioned his events to local Hindu temples to reach more of the South Asian community. At the temples, Soren was able to meet other families who had family members that desperately needed a match. Upon hearing the firsthand stories of patients, Soren realized how difficult it was for South Asians struggling to find a match. He recognized the severity of the issue and was determined to make a change.
